White Sands International Film Festival
The White Sands International Film Festival brings a number of both short and feature-length documentaries and narrative films to Las Cruces in early September. The festival is “interested in independent films with contemporary issues that celebrate the human spirit by depicting stories with quality writing, acting and direction.” Established in Alamogordo in 2005, the festival moved to Las Cruces in 2009 to take advantage of its larger venues. The Whole Enchilada Fiesta
This three-day festival with fun activities for the entire family attracts thousands of people each year. Fiesta events include live music, a parade, 4x4 truck and car show, a 5K fun run, and a horseshoe tournament. Taking center stage is the construction—and consumption—of the world's largest enchilada, made with 75 gallons of red chile sauce, 50 pounds of onions and 175 pounds of grated cheese.
